Write This Down

The Record Life

I lay on the ground, bounce my thoughts off the sky.
I'm not making a sound, 'cause I'm wondering why
You looked right through me.
And why you strung me along, just to cut the string,
Now I'll write you a song, 'cause I can't say a thing.
So I guess that I'll sing what I mean.

It's too late to fall back down;
Back to where my feet were on the ground.
Every word I said, I still mean it;
I still don't want you around.
So maybe you should write this down.

I've gotten your letters, they say, "I wish you would stay,"
But I think it'd feel better for me to burn every page.
And as they're burning,
I look up and smile, what a comfortable thing
To have burned what you loved, or what you thought love should be.
I guess I'm learning what it means.

It's too late to fall back down;
Back to where my feet were on the ground.
Every word I said, I still mean it;
I still don't want you around.
So maybe you should write this down.
It's too late, you've gone too far.
I still keep my head in the sky and my heart with the stars.
If you think I didn't mean it, well maybe I should scream it,
Or maybe you should write this down.

I'm over it, it's grown far too heavy.
I can't shoulder this, I won't be forgetting
How you wore me thin;
But now I've got to let go and live.

It's too late to fall back down;
Back to where my feet were on the ground.
Every word I said, I still mean it;
I still don't want you around.
So maybe you should write this down.
It's too late, you've gone too far.
I still keep my head in the sky and my heart with the stars.
If you think I didn't mean it, well maybe I should scream it,
Or maybe you should write this down.
